A Day of Learning, Herbs & Seaweed Innovation – RYEC’s Industrial Visit

After an enriching visit to VOC Port on the morning of July 16th, 2025, members of the Rajapalayam Young Entrepreneurs Club (RYEC) continued their journey into the industrial landscape of Tamil Nadu with two unique visits — both vastly different in operations, yet equally fascinating in their approach to innovation and sustainability.

🌿 A Herbal Eye-Opener: PSS Ganesan & Sons Pvt Ltd.

Our first stop post-harbour was PSS Ganesan & Sons Pvt Ltd., a leading exporter of Senna dry leaves and other medicinal herbs. They are known for their deep-rooted legacy in the herbal export market. We had the incredible opportunity to be guided by Mr. Ganeshan, the CEO himself, who walked us through the behind-the-scenes look at how local herbs are processed for global wellness.

One of the most impressive aspects of this visit was witnessing a specialized machine that separates veins from neem leaves with precision — a simple yet powerful example of how traditional practices are being scaled up with modern technology.

We also got to learn about the sugar-controlling leaves they process, widely used in health supplements across the world. The visit showcased not just their export efficiency but also Tamil Nadu’s hidden strength in contributing to global herbal wellness.

🌊 Deep Dive into Sustainability: The Purple Private Ltd., – The Seaweed Consortium

Next, we stepped into a whole new world at TSC Purple Turtle Pvt Ltd., where Mr. Hari Shankar, Managing Director, personally introduced us to the magic of seaweed cultivation and R&D.

From the moment we entered, we were introduced to a series of breakthroughs that left us amazed. Seaweed here isn’t just a marine plant — it’s a sustainable solution. One highlight? Its use as feed for black hens, which remarkably results in odorless Kadaknath eggs — something we got to taste firsthand! 🥚

He also shared insights into agar agar production, the variety of seaweed species, and how they’re tapping into its many applications through deep R&D and lab experiments. For many of us, this was our first real exposure to the potential of seaweed, and it shifted our perspective on what the future of food and sustainability could look like.

🌱 More Than a Visit — A Wake-Up Call for Sustainability

What we experienced on this day wasn’t just an industrial visit — it was a powerful learning opportunity that reminded us how innovation doesn’t always mean high-tech, but rather high-impact. Whether it’s herbs exported across continents or seaweed grown to replace synthetic materials, the message was clear: small innovations can make a big difference in healing the Earth.

📝 Final Thoughts

Days like these reaffirm why industrial visits are an essential part of entrepreneurial growth. They spark curiosity, encourage innovation, and bridge the gap between traditional knowledge and future-forward thinking.

To everyone who made this visit possible — and to the industries who welcomed us with such openness — we’re grateful for the exposure, insights, and inspiration.
